Information about the project
The Anogia Music and Dance Tradition Centre is a pioneering project with a deep cultural and social footprint, which aims to preserve, promote and reproduce the rich music and dance tradition of the Anogia region. It is a landmark project for the cultural development of Crete, incorporating the history, traditions and values of the local community.
It was created to serve as a cultural attraction for the residents and visitors of the area, offering a lively place where traditional music and dance can not only be preserved but also evolve. At the same time, it is intended to be a hub of education and creativity, giving people of all ages the opportunity to get acquainted with the music and dance of Crete, to discover the art and to actively participate in its dissemination.
The implementation of the project was initiated by the Municipality of Anogia, which envisioned a place that will honor the past and inspire the future. Its design and technical support were implemented by the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), with funding provided through the Operational Programme “Crete”, under the NSRF and the European Union.
The centre has modern infrastructure and equipment, including multi-purpose rooms, teaching and rehearsal spaces, as well as facilities for hosting events, workshops and performances. Through these activities, the centre acts as a bridge between tradition and the younger generation, offering a space open to all those who wish to connect with the culture of Crete.
Moreover, the role of the centre is not limited to the local community. It aspires to serve as a reference point for the study, recording and promotion of Cretan cultural heritage on a national and international level. Through its actions, it ensures the continuity and sustainability of Cretan culture, strengthening local identity and interconnection with the wider cultural scene.
